dRPC, NAMeD launch Media Challenge on PHC coverage

The Nigerian Academy of Medicine (NAMeD) and the development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC) announce a Media challenge for Journalists covering primary healthcare in Nigeria.

The award will be announced on Thursday during the 2023 national conference of the Academy to encourage in-depth investigations that address bottlenecks bedevilling the nation’s public healthcare system. 

In a statement signed by Dr Stanely Ukpai, dRPC’s Director of Projects, the award challenge is designed to support revamping the PHCUOR policy in Nigeria by maximising the commitment of the federal government and state governors to promote a progressive increase in PHC funding in Nigeria.

” This award is to support Media practitioners working in the healthcare delivery system, especially in the PHC sector, to boost their morale and to let them know people are looking at their work” He said

While giving further criteria for the award, Dr Ukpai added that in-depth articles written on specific areas of PHC coverage, including, but not limited to, service delivery, Basic healthcare provision fund, gender in health and other areas will be considered.

”We are inviting health reporters covering PHCs to submit published entries of articles written since 2022 on themes: PHCs financing; PHCs, UHC and the BHCPF; gender norms and access to PHC services; and delivery of maternal health and routine immunisation services within the PHC system” He added.

He, therefore, called Health Journalists to take advantage of the challenge to send their entries for consideration, adding that launching the Media Challenge award will happen on Thursday, October 26th 2023, at the Reiz Continental Hotel, 779 10th Street, Cadastral Zone, Abuja. Date:
